On October 15, 2008 the Lawrence County Board enacted an ordinance
2008-14 to establish the Lawrence County Emergency Telephone System
Board as the Addressing Authority of Lawrence County. This
is in accordance of Illinois Statutes (55ILCS 5/5-1067) (from Ch.
34, par. 5-1067). This ordinance also adds provisions for
the numbering of buildings and dwellings.
In summary, the Lawrence County Ordinance 2008-14 states that within
60 days after the receipt of notification of a new E911 address,
the owner or occupant of that address must affix the number to the
structure if visible from the road, or to a sign or number post
if not visible from the road, in such a manner that the numbers
can be clearly
seen day or night. If the address sign needs to be located at the
entrance to the structure from the road, it must be located on the
same side of the road. There are restrictions on number height,
3 inches minimum, and must have a contrasting background color.
Addresses outside a municipality must use 3 inch high reflective
numbers with a contrasting background color assigned by the fire
district in which the structure is located.
